According to newspaper reports, the derelict site at Shoreham Cement Works by the Adur looks set to be developed, possibly within the next year.
Both the Worthing Herald and Brighton Argus report that FI Property Group, owner of the property, are ready to move forward with plans to build up to 521 homes on the site.
Founder and Managing Director of FI Property Group, Tim Knowles, said: “With control and management of Shoreham Cement Works, we are now focused on delivering the next phase of the project”.
A public consultation is expected to be released later this year, with many locals concerned about the impact on the local wildlife.
Records of nesting Peregrines and Ravens in the quarry will no doubt be raised while the parts of the development beside the Adur River are likely to impact precious habitat used by the likes of Common Sandpipers, Kingfishers and winter thrushes.
