Adur & Worthing Council To Put Up Signage In Plan To Protect SSSI

After a contentious public consultation which returned a ‘split vote’, Adur & Worthing Council have shelved plans to introduce a dogs-on-leads public order for the paths on either side of the Adur River in the Site of Special Scientific Interest, which runs upstream from Cuckoo Corner to the glass bridge by Coronation Green.

In place of the order, the Council will, instead, introduce signage in the area, highlighting the importance of keeping dogs off the saltmarsh and mudflats in order to give the many birds which use the SSSI, the space they need in order to feed and rest.

While a ‘Dogs on leads’ order may still be introduced in the future, let’s hope the much-needed signage educates the public and protects our precious wildlife.
