Brown Booby

🔍 Overview

A spectacular tropical seabird that has made unexpected appearances in the UK in recent years. Extremely rare in Sussex, but possible with the right weather conditions.

Chocolate-brown body with pale belly

Long pointed wings and tail

Striking direct flight low over waves

🗺️ Habitat & Distribution

Seen only once in our recording area in the last 25 Years on  a sea-watch from Hove Beach. May also roost on buoys or coastal rocks briefly.

🎶 Voice & Behaviour

Silent at sea. Soars and glides with strong wingbeats, often diving dramatically for fish. A powerful flier that may stay offshore.
