Crested Lark

🔍 Overview

A southern European species and extremely rare vagrant to the UK. Only a few records, with none recently in Sussex, but theoretically possible.

Prominent pointed crest

Sandy-brown tones and streaky chest

Long, slightly decurved bill

🗺️ Habitat & Distribution

If ever encountered, it would likely be at bare coastal areas or airfields—similar to Shore Lark habitat. Most likely spring or autumn after continental drift.

🎶 Voice & Behaviour

Fluty, varied song with mimicry. Runs on the ground and rarely flushes unless approached.
