Firecrest

🔍 Overview

One of Britain’s tiniest birds, the Firecrest is a gem of Sussex woodlands, especially in winter. Brilliant head markings and fast movement make it a joy to spot.

Often seen in coniferous woods, cemeteries, and gardens around East Sussex and Cissbury Ring.

High-pitched thin calls and a very fast, high song. Constantly active.

Tiny insects, spiders, and larvae.

Look high in conifers or holly—use ears more than eyes due to their size.
