🔍 Overview
One of Britain’s tiniest birds, the Firecrest is a gem of Sussex woodlands, especially in winter. Brilliant head markings and fast movement make it a joy to spot.

Plumage: Olive green, white underparts
Distinctive Marks: Striped face, orange crown stripe (male), bold white supercilium
Bill: Short and fine
Tail: Stubby
Flight: Quick, restless flitting

Often seen in coniferous woods, cemeteries, and gardens around East Sussex and Cissbury Ring.
🎶 Voice & Behaviour
High-pitched thin calls and a very fast, high song. Constantly active.
🍴 Diet
Tiny insects, spiders, and larvae.

Look high in conifers or holly—use ears more than eyes due to their size.
