The largest gull in the world, the Great Black-backed Gull is an imposing predator and scavenger along the Sussex coast.

Deep, laughing cries. Dominates feeding frenzies and will prey on smaller birds.

Fish, carrion, refuse, smaller birds.

Easy to pick out from other gulls by size and dark back. Look on groynes or scavenging near fishing boats.
