Icterine Warbler

🔍 Overview

A scarce spring migrant in Sussex, mostly seen at coastal migrant hotspots after easterly winds. Rare but regular in May and early June.

🪶 Key Identification Features

Size: Similar to a Willow Warbler (13–14 cm)

Plumage: Grey-green upperparts, yellow underparts

Bill: Broad base and slightly curved

Other: Pale wing panel and long, pale legs

🗺️ Habitat & Distribution

Favours coastal scrub and tall bushes during spring migration. Most records come from Beachy Head, Seaford Head, and Hope Gap.

🎶 Voice & Behaviour

A loud, scratchy song mixing mimicry with harsh notes. Often sings from cover.
