A delightful and highly social garden and woodland bird. Easily recognisable by its fluffy body and very long tail.

Plumage: Pale pink sides, black and white above

Distinctive Marks: Very long tail, small round body

Bill: Tiny and stubby

Flight: Quick and undulating

Widespread in woodlands, hedgerows, and gardens across Sussex, especially in winter flocks.

🎶 Voice & Behaviour

Soft “tsee-tsee” and “trrrt” calls. Often seen in fast-moving flocks in shrubs.

🍴 Diet

Insects, spiders, suet, and peanuts.

Watch hedges or trees near feeders. Best seen in loose foraging flocks.
