A scarce and secretive spring migrant. Most Sussex records come from May and early June, especially after easterly winds.

Plumage: Plain brown above, pale below

Bill: Straight, pale base

Other: No obvious features—best identified by song

Occasionally found in dense scrub, nettles, and willow thickets at coastal sites like Hope Gap and Seaford Head.

A rich, fast-paced song with extensive mimicry—key ID feature. Often sings from deep cover.
