Ring-necked Parakeet

🔍 Overview

A striking green parrot with a growing presence in Sussex, especially around urban parks and gardens. Scarce introduced resident; has bred.

🗺️ Habitat & Distribution

Established in parts of Brighton, Crawley, and Eastbourne, especially in parkland and suburban areas. Most active in winter communal roosts.

🎶 Voice & Behaviour

Very vocal, with repetitive “screeching” calls. Forms noisy flocks and uses tree holes for nesting.
