Savi’s Warbler

🔍 Overview

A rare and elusive warbler in Sussex. Sometimes breeds or sings briefly in spring in reedbeds.

🪶 Key Identification Features

Size: Similar to Reed Warbler (14–15 cm)

Plumage: Plain warm brown above, paler below, strong bill

Tail: Rounded, not pointed like Grasshopper Warbler

🗺️ Habitat & Distribution

Occasional records from Amberley Wild Brooks, Pulborough Brooks, and Pagham Harbour in April–June.

🎶 Voice & Behaviour

Distinctive mechanical reeling song, similar to a fishing reel. Usually sings at dusk from deep in reeds.
