A scarce and declining farmland bird in Sussex, distinguished from the House Sparrow by its rich chestnut crown. Scarce passage migrant and winter visitor.

🗺️ Habitat & Distribution
Now rare in Sussex, but may be seen in north-west Wealden farmland, particularly around Rother Valley and the High Weald. Occasional winter flocks recorded at feeders or stubble fields.
🎶 Voice & Behaviour
Softer “chip-chip” calls. More wary than House Sparrows, often seen in tight, fast-flying flocks.
