This week, SDOS legend Bernie Forbes, led a walk to West Dean woods in West Sussex.
The target bird was the Goshawk and sure enough we had distant views of one ( or was it two) gliding above the forest. A first-ever sighting for many of those on the walk.
We also had great views of Red kites, Buzzards (mating!), Mistle Thrushes, Marsh Tits, Firecrest and a singing male Blackcap added to a very enjoyable outing.

It was such a fun walk and Bernie’s incredible ability to spot birds made it a very productive afternoon too.
SDOS walks for such special events – thanks to Bernie for leading and Tony Letchford for organising.
