A Sussex boy, Tim came to birding as a hobby late in life after family responsibilities diminished. He then joined SDOS prior to taking retirement since when he has learnt from knowledgeable colleagues and enjoys continuing to learn. Throughout his life he had a semi-latent interest in birds dating back to scribbling in his “Observers Book of Bird” in his early primary school years. Birds were observed in a large, isolated rural garden and he rubbed shoulders with nature to walk to school, cycling and fishing with friends. As an adult he enjoyed rambling and joined RSPB as a family member. Latterly bird photography has become an added interest.
In 2013 he was asked to take over the SDOS Treasurer role when it was discovered he had worked in banking and might be able to count!!
Also in 2013 he became a RSPB Volunteer Warden for their Adur Nature Reserve upon taking over as the British Trust for Ornithology Wetland Bird Surveyor of the Lower Adur Estuary, which includes this Reserve. This is a monthly task with which Society members can help, or simply enjoy watching the birds.
