In rather incredible news, SDOS membership hit the 400 milestone recently (406 to be precise) and we would like to thank all our members for the incredible support.

This growth in membership reflects positively on the work of SDOS Council and other volunteers. Together, we have promoted the society through regular articles in local magazines; public ‘birding’ events; talks to external groups; this snazzy new website; and daily postings on our Social Media channels (over 2,200 people follow us on Facebook).

Many people join us because of a recommendation from an existing member and this is always a particularly satisfying source of recruitment!

SDOS was set up in 1953 and I think that our founders would be amazed by how the society has grown and flourishes in a very different world.

So thank you once again for your support, it’s really appreciated!
