Paul was a keen birdwatcher in his childhood, gave it up completely when teenage years arrived, and only now in early retirement has he returned to his hobby. In the intervening years he was always a keen rambler and loved looking at OS maps and planning routes for himself and friends. Now he thinks of himself more as a rambler-birdwatcher, enjoying the countryside as much as the birds, and indeed is only average at bird ID. He offered SDOS two or three walks a year, one of them to somewhere new, but only if they could provide a more experienced birder to co-lead. They readily agreed, and in recent years Richard Allan has often taken on that role. Paul is out ‘in the field’ with friends a couple of times a week, lives in Worthing, and knows the Downs between the Arun and the Adur very well. He also particularly likes Chichester Harbour as a birding location and knows it well.
