My passion for birding is relatively recent, developed on a path others may recognise. I fled London in lockdown, taking early retirement and moving to Worthing. Here I traded my regulation hour in the local park for long rambles in the beautiful and varied West Sussex countryside. Time in nature is good for the soul. Once the binoculars had been bought, I realised it was official; I was a birder.
The new hobby led inevitably to SDOS, with its friendly and knowledgeable community. We are very lucky to have such an active and accessible local group, with great walks and talks, impressive experts happy to share their knowledge and a strong voice in local conservation.
I am active in SDOS’s Worthing and Adur Swift Group and also volunteer at RSPB Pulborough. A former journalist and communications consultant, I hope to help SDOS spread the joy of birding and respect for our local natural habitats.
